Spoleto Festival USA is the American version of a comprehensive arts festival that originated in Spoleto, Italy. Like its sisters in Europe, and now Australia, Charleston's Spoleto features master and apprentice artists performing in operas, chamber and symphonic concerts, plays, and dances in various venues around the city.

SpoletoFor 17 days each year, Charleston hosts over 120 performances by renowned and emerging talents. In addition, Piccolo Spoleto, the city-organized companion festival, schedules another 200 events. Audience members experience a broad range of artistic styles and forms, including classical ballet; modern and post-modern dance; opera; chamber, symphonic, and choral music; jazz; theater; and the literary and visual arts.

Spoleto Festival USA has maintained traditions of the original festival, such as a dedication to young artists, a fascination with contemporary works, an enthusiasm for providing unusual performance opportunities to recognized masters in their fields, and a commitment to all the performing arts.•
