NIGHTLIFE: THE CLUB & MUSIC SCENE Frommer
Bar Rumba

Despite its location on Shaftesbury Avenue, this Latin bar and music club could be featured in a book of "Underground London." A hush-hush address, it leans toward radical jazz-fusion on some nights, and phat funk on other occasions. It boasts two full bars and a different musical theme every night. Tuesday and Wednesday are the only nights you probably won't have to queue at the door. Monday's "That's How It Is" showcase features jazz, hip-hop, and drum and bass; Friday provides R&B and swing; and Saturday's "Garage City" buzzes with house and garage. All the music here is live. On weeknights you have to be 18 or older; on Saturday and Sunday, nobody under 21 is allowed in.

36 Shaftesbury Ave, W1.Phone: 020/7287-2715.Open: Open Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 3:30am, Friday from 6pm to 4am, Saturday from 7pm to 6am, and Sunday from 8pm to 1:30am.Cover £3-£12 ($4.80-$19).Tube: Piccadilly Circus.
