This branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum specializes in toys. The variety of dolls alone is staggering, and some have such elaborate period costumes that you don't even want to think of the price tags they would carry today. With the dolls go dollhouses, from simple cottages to miniature mansions, complete with fireplaces, grand pianos, kitchen utensils, household pets, and carriages. There are also optical toys, marionettes, puppets, a considerable exhibit of soldiers and war toys from both World War eras, trains and aircraft, and clothing and furniture relating to the social history of childhood.
Open: Sat-Thurs 10am-5:45pm.Free admission.Tube: Central Line to Bethnal Green.
